FAQS

Welcome to Voorhees Lacrosse's FAQs.  Here you will find answers to the most common questions newbies and veterans have about the sport and our club.

Is boy's lacrosse the same as girl's lacrosse?
Boy's lacrosse is considerably different from girl's lacrosse.  Boy's lacrosse allows for physical contact and checking during game play requiring players to wear more protective equipment.  Positions and rules also vary between the two.

What type of equipment is needed to play?
Girls are required to have a lacrosse stick, mouth piece and protective eyewear to play; whereas, boys are required to wear more equipment. View equipment requirements.

Are players required to be registered with US Lacrosse?
Yes, every player must be registered and an active member of US Lacrosse. Memberships are good for one-year and must be renewed every year. Voorhees Lacrosse registration includes players' US Lacrosse memberships and takes care of processing the registration directly with US Lacrosse.

What is the difference between Skills & Drills and Competitive Play?
Skills & Drills is a developmental program for young players (K-2) who wish to learn the fundamentals of lacrosse before entering competitive game play.  Players typically practice once a week during a co-ed session.  No equipment is necessary and there are no games played other than fun activities.

I have a second grader, can he/she play Competitive Play lacrosse?
Second graders have the option of playing in either the competitive play or skills & drills divisions.

What is lacrosse's primary season?
Lacrosse is played during the spring season. Season typically starts in mid March continuing to the first weekend in June.  Fall lacrosse leagues are becoming more popular and common in South Jersey.  Teams participating in the fall are optional and at the discretion of the team/coach.

Are there tryouts/cuts in lacrosse?
South Jersey Lacrosse (the league Voorhees Lacrosse is a member of) does not permit cutting players.  Any player who registers for lacrosse is placed on a team.  Voorhees Lacrosse may perform evaluations prior to the start of the season to determine each player's skill level to place them on the appropriate level team.

When and where are games played?
All home games and practices are held at Giangiulio Field in Alluvium (on Victor Boulevard). Away games are held at opposing team's fields and may be up to an hour away.  Teams play two games during the spring season.

Boys play on Friday and Saturdays and Girls play on Sundays (younger divisions may play Saturday mornings.)

How often do teams practice?
Team practices are at the discretion of the individual coaches; however, most teams practice twice a week for an hour and half during regular season. Teams are participate in winter practices prior to the spring season and varies based on the scheduling of the indoor venue(s).

Do teams play in tournaments?
Yes, teams generally participate in two tournaments in the Spring season.  Tournaments are determined by the head coach of each team.

Can I cancel my registration after signing up my child?

Refunds are available up to certain timeframes during the season.  For more information, view our refund guidelines.

Are payment plans available for registration fees?
We realize that lacrosse is an expensive sport especially with additional equipment costs. We offer payment plans usually in three installments depending on when the player is registered.  However, players must be paid in full prior to the first game of the season in order to participate.
